Love the color and sale price. Haven’t gotten a chance to wear it yet, but it it looks great and is super light for traveling. I expect good things from this coat.

Very light and super warm. I am 6’1″ 200lbs and the large fits well. I like the big pockets and the fact the jacket can be stowed into itself. Also the saddle color I choose is more of a brown tannish color, that of an actual saddle, than the golden yellowish color in the picture. However, I turned out to really like it. I do wish it had a hood, but not a deal breaker. I would recommend this jacket.
Todd –
I do really like this jacket. Lightweight, yet warm. Nylon shell appears to be tough yet soft to the touch. Was worried that it wouldn’t be warm enough as a stand alone jacket in the winter, but the jacket does a great job at cutting the chill of wind and snow.
Derrick –
The size is right (men’s small) and it’s very warm.

I highly recommend this jacket because it’s very warm, very light, fits great, and is obviously well-made. My experience with down jackets dates back 30 years ago, when “big and puffy” was the norm…thus my surprise when seeing the smallish LL Bean bag holding this jacket on my front porch. I thought they’d sent the wrong item. But as soon as I put it on, I could feel my own body heat immediately start radiating inward. I got this to wear on my daily walks, and for cold autumn/winter football games, so I wanted something that was not only warm, but also light and packable, and this fits the bill perfectly. I have broad shoulders and chest, and a relatively narrow waist; I can fit a light layer under it (but really haven’t needed to yet), while tightening the waist of the jacket to seal in the heat. I had to take the jacket off after a half mile of walking on a 50 degree evening – I was too hot. But when the temp is in the teens up to 40, it’s perfect. This jacket is significantly warmer than a heavyweight fleece jacket I have, but is just as light. The zipper is of good quality. The collar comes up high enough without being obtrusive. Pockets are perfectly adequate, being deep enough to hold a large pair of gloves without worrying they’ll fall out. I can see how I might not want to wear this as an outer layer if scrambling through thickets or rough rocky situations (for fear the outer material might tear), that’s not my typical use, so no worries for me. In that situation I’d wear something thin and tough to protect against really rough surfaces.
KTNorthCal –
Light but warm for North Cal weather. Windproof is good. Color is more of a copper ish red instead of red. Wish the fit is a bit slimmer on waist but it is not shapeless by any mean
VintageVenango –
My husband is very happy with this coat, says it fits well and is comfortable to wear. He says it keeps him warm in 30 and 40 degree weather and is tolerable in the 20s but he would wear something warmer if the temp dips lower than that. Overall he is very happy with this coat, has worn it daily since it arrived, and keeps mentioning that it was a good purchase. We did get it at a very good Daily Markdown price. I don’t think we would pay $229 for any coat unless it helped out with household chores.
Sanjiv M –
Amazing buy. Great fit. Perfectly placed and practical zipped pockets. Perfect warmth for cool spring mornings. I have gotten a large number of compliments
Falcon –
Good jacket, with really well thought out tech at a good price point, especially when on sale. The only thing make it better and much warmer would be small baffles instead of cheaper sewn thru seams which allow air passage in windy conditions. Excellent purchase process, quick delivery and high level customer service from L.L.

Great product! Very comfortable and performs well in the ski season, winter fly fishing season, etc
RJ007 –
Light weight, warm, windproof, packable. All the things I need in a jacket.
Paul N –
Great jacket. Color is a little more metallic looking than it appears on-line, but still very nice.
Rockin –
It’s light & warm. Great for walking the dog in cold weather.
Dave –
It’s so nice I bought it twice! I’m really tough on my Jackets and I ripped my first one on something sharp but it held up better than anything else I had before so I bought another.
Josh –
Lightweight and very comfortable – warm to around 30 degrees. It is great for keeping warm in wet and windy weather. If its blizzard snowing, go for something heavier, but for moderately cold, its a great jacket!
AT H –
Very warm, packable and great for hiking and other outside activities.

This is my second men’s ultralight 850. I still use the first one and it’s still just as warm. I’ve just ripped it in a couple spots and fixed it with black tape. That’s my every day jacket.
I got the new one so if I go out to a nice place I’m not embarrassed. It’s a good looking jacket. It really is the warmest thing by weight I’ve ever known. And the price the leader in the category. Best Buy!

Light weight, warm and good fit – what else do you need in a jacket
Sama –
Excellent down jacket. Extremely light weight and comfortable. Very warm. Easy to wear with great pockets. I purchased the XXL Tall to be able to easily wear over other garments in the winter, e.g. fleece or sweater. Since I just got this in early May, 2022, time will tell on long-term durability.
Seadog –
It’s now June here in the Pacific Northwest. While much of America is now enjoying warm temperatures, not so much here. Today is only 52F; you just never know what to expect. So yes this jacket is the perfect weight for our corner of the America. The color is really rich. A nice dark blue-ish with a bit of gray/black tones. The red piping gives the jacket “personality”. I also have this same color in the LL Bean vest.
Raymond –
The best down jacket I’ve ever worn! I bought my first one over 10 years ago. This is my second. Amazingly lightweight and warm, excellent fit, convenient pockets, always easy to zip. A great value! Looks good, too.
John A –
Fits and looks great!!! It’s warm and light, plus comfortable!
Jason –
fits as stated, packed with lots of down. I have owned down jackets that cost nearly twice as much, that had much less down fill, and far less loft. i’ve already worn it twice on cold northern michigan mornings and it kept me warm.
